Festive broadcast raises £60,000 for Jersey charity

The annual Christmas Charity Appeal on Channel 103 has raised more than £60,000 to help disadvantaged families in Jersey enjoy a better Christmas.

Islanders bid on more than 200 lots ranging from food and drink hampers to a tour of the air traffic control centre during a five-hour live broadcast hosted by breakfast presenter Peter Mac and Fiona Walker.

A trip to the Monaco Grand Prix raised £6,575, while tickets for the Wimbledon ladies final, went for £5,500.

Listeners also had the chance to ‘pledge a wedge’ to have a chance of winning an exotic holiday. Every £10 pledge secured an entry to the draw, with the value of the trip increasing all the time and ending up as a holiday to Toronto and Manhattan.

A total of £60,819 was raised by the auction, which goes to improve Christmas for 1,500 disadvantaged individuals or families in Jersey each year, supplying 250 hampers, 1,250 food vouchers, 1,300 fuel vouchers and 1,000 young persons’ gift vouchers.
