Tindle Channel Islands stations grow market share

More than half of all adults in the Channel Islands now tune into Tindle Radio stations every week according to the latest RAJAR* radio listening figures for Q4 2023 published today.

Guernsey’s Island FM has grown its market share quarter-on-quarter to 30.3% of all radio listening – the highest of any radio station in the British Isles, BBC or commercial.

More than 28,000 people (55% of Guernsey’s population) tune into Island FM each week – nearly three times of the number of people that listen to its local competitor. Island FM also enjoys the largest weekly reach percentage in the British Isles.

Across the water in Jersey, 46,400 people tune into Tindle’s Channel 103 each week – 50% of the population – and they’re listening for longer than before. Every Channel 103 listener now tunes in for 9.6 hours a week on average, compared to 9.2 previous quarter. Channel 103 has the second-highest share and reach in the British Isles – behind its stablemate Island FM.

Tindle Radio Pan-island Managing Director James Keen said, “This survey period includes the worst weather – Storm Ciarán -  to hit the Channel Islands in more than 40 years and these listening figures underscore the vital importance of local radio to islanders during times of bad weather – as both a source of reliable up to date information but also a sense of community.

“These listening numbers are a testament to our great teams of journalists and presenters in Jersey and Guernsey.”

Tindle Radio now delivers a weekly audience of 74,800 adults across the Channel Islands.
